Watch Out! Facebook Fanpage Phishing Scams On The Rise!
I run a few facebook fanpages and just last week, I was hit with a terrifying private message on one of my fanpages, warning me of a violation and account being disabled if I don’t take action. The message subject reads…

I was quite scared indeed! Did I pissed off some fans? It must’ve have been some haters/trolls who reported my fanpage.
This was a fanpage with around 200k members and I surely did not want to lose it. The alert message looks pretty legit, with all of the legal facebook jargons at the footer and it just looks genuine overall.
I click on the link to verify, it’s a link on facebook, so it has to be okay, right?

So why in the world would facebook ask me for my email or phone, password, and confirm password? I’m not resetting my account why do they need all of this info? Anyways, I did a quick google search for the app name “securitycenterapp” and there were no signs of this being legitimate or any info on it really. On top of that the page app of this security center page was just a fanpage and it showed zero users and zero activity as well, and it was just started recently.
Adding it all together, I concluded that this was a no-brainer case of a phishing scam.
What is a phishing scam?
Email Phishing scams are carried out online by tech-savvy con artists and identity theft criminals. They use spam, fake websites constructed to look identical to real sites, email and instant messages to trick you into divulging sensitive information, like bank account passwords and credit card numbers. –Webroot
I’ve reported this scammer to facebook.
So if you ever get hit with any kind of facebook violation notices, be sure to question everything, do some research; before you giveaway your login info and have your account stolen.
