How to Disable Automatic Updates For WordPress
Are you suddenly updated to the wordpress development version automatically? As of wordpress version 3.7, wordpress will automatically update itself, but it’s not supposed to be updated to the development version.
I run a lot of wordpress websites, and most are updated correctly, but a few are updated to the development version. I don’t want this, and I’m sure you don’t either.
So how to disable automatic updates?
You need to edit the wp-config.php file located in the root of your wordpress installation, and add this line of code:
define( 'WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE', false );
By adding this line of code into your wp-config.php file, you will disable all automatic updates.
You can also add one of these values to enable minor updates and disable major and development updates.
WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE can be defined with one of three values, each producing a different behavior:
- Value of true – Development, minor, and major updates are all enabled
- Value of false – Development, minor, and major updates are all disabled
- Value of 'minor' – Minor updates are enabled, development, and major updates are disabled
So if you only want to keep the minor updates automatically (recommended!), then use this
define( 'WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE', false );
